Anaab Rooble

Founder of Migrants with Disabilities Australia

She is an experienced human resource, finance and diversity and inclusion practitioner. She has 18 years of public services experience and is currently leading the corporate service team of the Victorian Disability Worker Commission. She has lived experience of intersectionality which she regards as additional strengths or as she often says, she wears many hats. She is a woman who wears a hijab as she belongs to the Muslim faith, an African migrant, a person with a disability and a woman of colour! In general, women need to break the glass ceiling but when you add other diverse layers such as migrants, a person of colour and disability the layers get thicker. She is passionate about revamping workplace cultures, driving diversity and inclusion initiatives and she learnt that organisational change often relies on the individual to have the courage to speak up and highlight where inequality exists and challenge the status quo. She hopes to see a world where we and them no longer exist. She is a proud member of the VPS Women of Colour Network as well as the VPS Enablers Network and she advocates tirelessly dispelling the stigma placed on people with disabilities, especially within the migrant communities. She attended many forums and shared my lived experience of disability and my employment journey which took five years. She highlighted in these forums that we can all do our share to create an inclusive workplace by removing barriers experienced by people with disabilities; through education, understanding, advocacy and open-mindedness. The fact of the matter is that employees with disabilities are just as reliable, productive, and great at problem-solving and good for business as others. During her time in Australia, she has graduated with several Diplomas, a Bachelor of Accounting, and a Master of Human Resource Management and am currently completing the Company Director Course offered by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
